1. User Acquisition Specialist

Books That Grow is an award winning educational start up that’s changing the way people read and learn. We make digital books that adapt to students’ reading abilities.  Imagine, books that read you!  We’ve just raised funding from Verizon Wireless and planted a second team in the Silicon Valley. (The core team works from our cool office space in SoHo, NYC).  We’re looking for a few extraordinary people to join our team.

The User Acquisition Specialist will introduce principals, teachers, and school technology leaders to Books That Grow, in order to (1) increase overall usage of Books That Grow and (2) increase the number of schools participating our Partner Program,’ which provides free access to Books That Grow, in exchange for in-depth feedback.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify K-12 Schools that are heavy users of technology

  • Initiate contact through email, social media, calling or visiting

  • Conduct on-site and web based demos; explain how Books That Grow benefits teachers and students

  • Use CRM software to keep track of discussions with schools

  • Bring at least 10 schools per month into Books That Grow Partner

Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to join a growing, early stage start up

  • Passion for education

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-Starting and highly motivated

  • Knows how to “close” without coming across like a ‘salesperson’

  • Detail and results oriented

2. Software Engineer Summer Intern

Join our full stack technology team over the summer, learn and contribute to our cutting-edge technology platform. 

Responsibilities:

1. Setting up and maintaining The Books that Grow development environment for our Web, Node, Ruby and iOS App 

2. Developing features for BTG web application

a. Incremental tactical usability features based on user feedback

b. Strategic wider features including full stack architecture

3. Coordinating software development with wider development team

a. Participating in agile process and scrums

b. Supporting needs of other developers via prototyping and feature contribution

4. Data capture and analytics

a. Setting up infrastructure for user behavioral analytics

b. Setting up infrastructure for user assessment Q&A

c. Creating visual representations of these

5. Scaling 

a. Put in place services for scaling including db optimization, memcached, content delivery network

b. Analyze page and API response times and introduce changes to improve KPIs

Qualifications:

  • Recent grad or currently pursuing a computer science or related degree

  • Agile software development or willingness to learn

  • Data analytics and reporting infrastructures or willingness to learn

  • Full-stack development: HTML 5/Javascript/Angular/Node or willingness to learn

  • Added Plus: Dev Ops and a variety of languages/platforms or willingness to learn

  • Strong desire to join a growing, early stage start up

  • Passion for education

  • Self-Starting and highly motivated
